Thomas Kiesewetters’ exhibition includes four metal sculptures that are at once industrial and organic in form, both rigid and elegant in feel. Angular, geometric forms take on human characteristics as one seems frozen mid stride. Another work resembles an impossible design for a flying machine. Materiality and form are central concerns in Kiesewetter’s work. Scraps of sheet metal bolted together and painted, his sculptures have an architectural sensibility and a modernist aesthetic. The funky constructions sometimes seem make-shift yet achieve a precise balance and a strong and whimsical presence.
